- No portrait survives, though episcopal vestments of the period are reasonably well understood.
Notes:
- The 'official historian erasing the supernatural record' conceit is unusually well-grounded in his real documented role. Because Gregory's history stops in 591, the series' post-591 material (e.g. Fredegund's 597 death) draws on later continuators, not Gregory himself.
Novel Relevance:
- Reimagined in Book IV as 'Bishop Gregory (The Historian),' who redacts magic from the record, creating the 'Official History' paving the way for the Mayors — an elegant reframing of his real historiographical role as deliberate magical censorship. High-polish priority.
